Emmanuel Yeboah made a sensational impact when he entered the game in the second half against Congo, playing a vital role in propelling Ghana to a crucial victory and kickstarting an explosive beginning to the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars endured some nervy moments but held onto their lead to secure a narrow 3-2 win over the young Red Devils in their tournament opener at the Prince Moulaye Abdellah Stadium earlier today.
As soon as the second half began, the CFR Cluj striker replaced captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and immediately made his presence felt by providing an assist to Ernest Nuamah for the opening goal.
He further bolstered the team’s efforts with two goals in the 75th and 83rd minutes, giving the Meteors a commanding 3-0 lead after 83 minutes. Although the Congolese managed to score two goals in the final five minutes plus added time, it was not enough to salvage a point.
In an interview, Yeboah expressed his excitement about the victory and stated that the team is ready and focused for their next game.
“We have the coach, the staff, and the players to go all the way; it’s up to us to stay focused.”
“When I saw the opponents we were going to face, I was delighted because they are powerhouses of African football. It is through such strong opposition that we progress.”
“We couldn’t afford to falter today against Congo, and we will gain momentum as the tournament progresses.” He added
If Ghana manages to defeat the host nation, Morocco, in their next Group A match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, they could secure a spot in the semifinals.
