Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment following CAF’s decision to suspend the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for international matches until the necessary upgrades are made to the facility.
Reacting during the CAF Coaches Symposium in Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire, Addo acknowledged the frustration of not being able to play in front of home fans, but emphasized the importance of adapting to the situation.
The symposium, which has brought together several top African coaches, comes in the wake of Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Angola in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, a match played at the Baba Yara Stadium. The poor condition of the pitch during the game drew criticism from both Addo and Angola’s coach Pedro Goncalves.
“It’s really a pity. We always love to play in front of our home crowd, but at the end of the day, we have to make the best out of this situation,” Addo said. “If we have to play somewhere else, then it’s like that. I don’t want to use my energy thinking too much about it because it’s CAF’s decision, and there’s nothing we can do.”
The Black Stars are now expected to play their upcoming AFCON qualifying matches away from Ghana, with Addo hopeful that the stadium issues will be resolved soon, allowing the team to return to home soil.
“I hope that we manage everything so we can play at home as fast as possible for our crowd to see us,” he added.
