Jesper Fredberg, CEO of Anderlecht, has recently addressed the contract situation and fitness issues surrounding Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru.
Fredberg acknowledges Ashimeru’s distinctive playing style, describing it as “direct and vertical,” yet expresses concern over the midfielder’s recurring injuries.
“He has something that few players have: he plays football directly and vertically. Unfortunately, he is out of action too often,” Fredberg said.
With Ashimeru’s contract expiring at the end of the upcoming season, Anderlecht is currently assessing his circumstances.
“His contract expires at the end of next season and we are looking at his situation,” he added.
Despite featuring in 12 games in the Belgian Pro League this season, Ashimeru’s absence from the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic underscores his ongoing battle with injuries.
As the Black Stars gear up to face Mali in the crucial World Cup qualifier, Ashimeru’s fitness remains a concern for both Anderlecht and Ghana’s national team.
