In his debut as head coach of Asekem Football Club, Barnabas Awuni displayed a mix of optimism and resolve despite his team’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Skyy FC in the Ghana Division One League.
The match played on Skyy FC’s home turf, marked the beginning of what Awuni hopes would be a transformative era for the Beposo-based club.
The result may not have gone Asekem FC’s way, but Coach Barnabas Awuni found reasons to applaud his players’ efforts.
“We lost, but I am impressed with the boys’ performance,” Awuni said. “Tactically, everything worked. Playing away against a team fighting to move up from the bottom is never easy. Skyy FC needed the win badly and did everything possible for it, but we were the better side.”
Awuni’s appointment comes with high expectations, as the club looks to reclaim its glory days. Despite the immediate setback, his comments reflect a focus on the long-term development of the team.
Looking ahead, Awuni is determined to use the upcoming FA Cup break to strengthen Asekem FC, both tactically and in personnel. He revealed plans to bolster the squad and prepare for their next match, a home fixture against his former club, King Faisal.
“We will use the FA Cup break to work on the team and also add some new players to strengthen the squad. Facing King Faisal at home in two weeks is crucial, and we’ll be ready.”
Awuni’s leadership and vision are already evident, and while the scoreboard didn’t favour Asekem FC in his first outing, his ability to inspire confidence and progress could be the key to turning the tide.
Fans will be eagerly watching as Asekem FC continues its journey under the guidance of Coach Barnabas Awuni, with hopes that his tenure will deliver the resurgence they crave.
