Former Ghana international and Bibiani GoldStars coach, Frimpong Manso, has urged Black Stars players to renew their commitment to representing the nation following disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars are winless in four games, placing third in Group F with only two points and facing the risk of missing out on next year’s tournament in Morocco.
In an interview, Manso stressed the need for a change in attitude among the players, urging the technical team to make bold decisions regarding player selection. “The Black Stars need a change of attitude,” Manso told Asempa FM, as reported by Ghanasoccernet. “Their chances of qualifying for the AFCON are slim, but this change in approach is essential as we look toward the World Cup qualifiers.”
He pointed to a lack of urgency, saying, “It’s frustrating to see them under pressure to win games in the final minutes. I know some players are committed, but those who lack commitment must be dropped—especially since these are the same players we rely on for World Cup qualifiers.”
Manso also raised concerns about players prioritizing club responsibilities over national duty, advocating for “drastic changes” in squad selection.
The Black Stars will face Angola in Luanda on Friday, November 15, before their final Group F clash against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18. To keep their AFCON hopes alive, Ghana must win both matches and hope for favorable outcomes in Sudan’s remaining fixtures.
