Otto Addo, the coach of the Black Stars, acknowledges the formidable task of revitalizing the Ghanaian national football team, underscoring the challenging circumstances he encountered upon assuming his role.
Addo candidly stated that the team’s performance was lacking even before his reappointment, following the dismissal of Chris Hughton due to a disappointing AFCON campaign in Cote d’Ivoire.
Despite facing setbacks, including a 2-1 loss against Nigeria and a 2-2 draw with Uganda in his initial matches, Addo remains steadfast in his dedication to reshaping the team.
Arriving amidst the team’s recent struggles, highlighted by early exits from consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, Addo stressed the imperative for improvement, particularly in executing under pressure.
“Finishing must be better under pressure. It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of work but I have to say this is what I expected because we were not good even before I came so it’s a process,” Addo remarked.
Looking forward to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June, Addo is determined to surmount recent obstacles and guide the Black Stars towards triumph.
