Dan Quaye, a former defender for Accra Hearts of Oak, has issued a stern caution to the current squad, warning of dire consequences if they allow the team to plummet into relegation due to their lackluster displays.
In an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Quaye expressed his dismay at the team’s recent form, with only one victory in their last five matches. He stressed that the players’ careless attitude has contributed to the team’s precarious position and urged them to take their responsibilities seriously to avoid relegation.
Highlighting the cultural significance of the club to the Ga and Ashanti communities, Quaye stated that they wouldn’t hesitate to invoke curses upon the players if they fail to uphold the team’s stature.
“A curse will fall on these players if they carry on with their careless behavior and let Hearts of Oak get relegated, as Hearts has never finished higher than tenth during our tenure,” he said.
“But these boys have ruined every successful record the team has had, so they need to make it right. On the other hand, we Ga’s and Ashanti’s will curse them if they choose to demote us.
Quaye emphasized the need for the players to rectify their performance, as the club’s legacy is at stake. He warned that neglecting their duties could lead to a fate similar to Santos, a renowned Brazilian club recently relegated.
“They need to take their work seriously because it is a direct result of their performance where we are today. Santos, a long-standing Brazilian city, has recently been demoted, so my beloved club could experience a similar fate,” he ended.
