Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei has acknowledged that his squad is not yet in peak condition as they prepare for the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship.
Despite the challenges, Ofei remains optimistic about the team’s progress as they get ready for the tournament, which will take place next month in Togo.
Speaking about the team’s preparations, Ofei said, “We’re not at the best level that we wanted, but we are growing. The team is improving gradually, and I’m sure that by the time the tournament starts, we will be in better shape.”
The Black Satellites, who won gold at the 2023 African Games, have been in camp for weeks to prepare for the upcoming competition. Ghana has been drawn in Group A alongside Benin, Niger, and host nation Togo. This tournament will also serve as the qualifying event for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw for the qualifiers was conducted on September 26, and the Black Satellites aim to return to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations after missing out on the 2023 edition.
