Asante Kotoko forward Albert Amoah has shed light on his improving partnership with teammate Kwame Opoku following his match-winning performance in the FA Cup semifinal against Berekum Chelsea.
Amoah was the hero on Sunday as the Porcupine Warriors edged Berekum Chelsea 1-0 at the TNA Park to book a place in the 2023/24 FA Cup final, where they will face Division One side Golden Kick on June 15 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The former Great Olympics striker rose highest to meet a pinpoint cross from Baba Yahaya, heading home the only goal of the game to secure Kotoko’s place in the final. It was Amoah’s eighth goal of the season in all competitions.
Speaking after the game, Amoah opened up about his improving on-field connection with fellow striker Kwame Opoku.
“We’ve learned to play to our strengths,” he said. “I always know where Kwame is positioned when we’re attacking. It wasn’t like that at first — we didn’t connect well. But now, there’s a strong understanding between us.”
He added that feedback from both coaches and fans has helped sharpen their combination play: “The coaches and even our fans have spoken to us about our partnership, and that’s really helped us improve how we play together.”
Kotoko will now shift focus to the Ghana Premier League, where they face Dreams FC on Matchday 31 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
