Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has explained the inspiration behind his unique celebration after scoring for West Ham in their match against Brighton. Kudus, known for his iconic “take a seat” celebration, added a cultural twist by introducing a traditional Ghanaian elephant stool.
After scoring the equalizer at the London Olympic Stadium, the former Ajax player unveiled the customized stool as part of his celebration, drawing attention to his roots. Speaking about the gesture, Kudus revealed it was a deliberate attempt to highlight his heritage.
“The stool is from Ghana,” Kudus explained post-match. “With my celebration on the boards, a lot of people are copying it now, so I had to do something to stand out and showcase Ghana.”
He further elaborated on the significance of the stool, saying, “The elephant is a symbol of traditional authority back home in Ghana.”
Kudus, who recently returned to action after serving a five-game suspension, has been impactful for West Ham this season. In 12 Premier League appearances, he has scored three goals and provided one assist.
