Nora Häuptle has officially taken charge as the head coach of Zambia’s senior women’s national team, the Copper Queens, on a two-year deal. The Swiss coach steps into the role following the dismissal of Bruce Mwape.
Häuptle, who previously managed Ghana’s Black Queens, joined the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in 2023, replacing Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo. During her time with the Black Queens, she achieved significant milestones, including guiding the team to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and securing the 2023 WAFU Zone B Women’s Cup. Her tenure also saw an impressive campaign in the Women’s Olympic qualifiers, though Ghana narrowly lost to Zambia.
Despite her success with the Black Queens, Häuptle opted not to extend her contract with the GFA after its expiration. She has now shifted her focus to Zambia, with reports indicating she will earn $7,000 per month in her new role.
Before her appointment as Black Queens coach, Häuptle worked as a technical advisor for Ghana’s U-20 women’s team during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. Her unveiling as the Copper Queens’ head coach is expected to happen next week.
