Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has shared his experience of playing under Black Stars coach Otto Addo, expressing his admiration for the former Borussia Dortmund assistant and his optimism for the national team’s future.
Ashimeru, who made his international debut in 2021 against South Africa, had to wait two years for another chance to represent Ghana. Since late 2023, however, the former WAFA star has become an integral part of the squad, featuring in eight of the Black Stars’ last twelve matches.
His first appearance under Addo came during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger. In an interview with Flashscore.com, Ashimeru reflected on his excitement about playing for the national team and the opportunity to work with Addo.
“It feels really amazing to be called up because we have so many players here in Ghana,” Ashimeru said. “Working with Otto Addo is something I’ve been waiting for a long time. He’s a great coach, and I feel like we have a lot to achieve together. It feels good to work with him.”
Coach Otto Addo, who signed a 34-month contract in March 2024 with an option to extend for another 24 months, is now focused on leading the Black Stars to success in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana is set to face Sudan in a back-to-back fixture next month as Addo looks to secure his first victory in the qualifiers after a challenging start.
