Reports indicate that Stephan Ambrosius, a Ghanaian born in Germany, is on the verge of receiving his inaugural national team call-up, marking a potential milestone in his career.
The 24-year-old defender is believed to be a strong candidate to be included in the roster for the Black Stars ahead of the international break in September.
It is anticipated that Ambrosius will find his name listed in the squad for Ghana’s forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match on September 7, 2023. This fixture will see Ghana facing off against the Central African Republic in the final stage of qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The match is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, as Ghana endeavors to secure its spot in the subsequent tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Although Ambrosius transitioned his international allegiance to Ghana from the German U21 team last year, he has yet to make his debut appearance for the West African powerhouse on the football field.
During the 2022-23 season, Ambrosius was loaned to Karlsruher SC, a team competing in Germany’s Bundesliga 2. Throughout this loan spell, he participated in 19 matches across various competitions. Subsequently, he has rejoined his parent club, Hamburger SV, in preparation for the 2023-24 season. Notably, he has already contributed to his team’s efforts by playing in four matches within the league and DFB Pokal.
Ambrosius’s inclusion in the squad is expected to fill the void left by the absence of injured players Mohammed Salisu and Daniel Amartey. This presents an opportunity for him to make a meaningful impact in the match against the Central African Republic’s national team, known as the Wild Beasts.
