AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo will miss Ghana’s final two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, the Ghana Football Association has announced.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that the 24-year-old is suffering from a patellar tendon injury caused by game overload.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, the GFA said Semenyo is “Nursing an injury of the patella tendon due to overload of games.
“The Club medical team thought it wise to use the break to refer him to a tendon specialist to prevent worsening of the injury.”
Despite the injury, Semenyo played the full 90 minutes in Bournemouth’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford over the weekend in the Premier League.
The Black Stars will open camp on Monday evening in Accra ahead of the two upcoming matches later this week and early next week.
Ghana will face Angola on Friday, November 15, in Luanda, before concluding the qualifiers at home against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
Currently, Ghana sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, leaving their qualification hopes in the balance. The Black Stars must win their remaining matches and hope Sudan, with seven points, lose both of theirs in order to qualify.
