Ghana national football team forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances against England, insisting the Black Stars possess the experience needed to compete in one of their most important fixtures at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions are scheduled to face England on June 23 in their second Group L match of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The encounter is already shaping up to be one of the standout ties in Ghana’s group.
Speaking on the All Out Football podcast, Semenyo acknowledged the strength of England, who are now led by Thomas Tuchel, but remained confident that Ghana can rise to the occasion.
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be tough, especially against England, but we have a lot of experience,” the forward said.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before the high-profile clash with England, and will wrap up their group stage journey against Croatia on June 27.
As part of their final preparations, the Black Stars are expected to assemble in May for a series of friendly matches, including a test against Mexico, before concluding their build-up with a game against Wales on June 2.
Following disappointing group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022, newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz faces the task of restoring belief and guiding Ghana toward a stronger performance on the global stage.
