‘I didn’t know my son was that good until I watched him against Algeria in Kumasi’ – Ernest Nuamah’s father

In a surprising revelation, Mr. Yaw Nuamah, the father of Ghanaian winger Ernest Nuamah Appiah, disclosed that he had never personally watched his son play football and was unaware of his talent until Right to Dream scouts approached him.

The youngster was a thorn in the flesh of the Algeria team as Ghana beat them to secure CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations spot in June this year with the FC Nordsjaelland forward providing an assist.

Mr Yaw Nuamah was in attendance as he watched his son toiled the defense of the Algerians.

“Myself I never watch him play football until now. In fact the Ghana vs Algeria U23 AFCON qualifier in Kumasi was the first time that I watch my son play football,” Mr. Yaw Nuamah said in an interview GhanaSportsMarket.com.

“People used to tell me my son was a good player but myself I had not seen him play when he was a kid. And so I I did not know if indeed he was that good or not until I watch him in Kumasi against Algeria. Even after the game he told me he did not had his day and I told him he still did well” , he added.

Ernest Nuamah Appiah began his career at the Right to Dream Academy before joining FC Nordsjælland in January 2022. He made his debut on April 10, 2022, coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute and scoring an 84th-minute goal in a 2-2 draw against Aarhus GF.

On March 19, 2023, he was named the team’s Man of the Match after scoring two goals, including the winning goal, in a 2-1 victory over Brondby.

Additionally, Nuamah was voted the Player of the 2022/23 season in Denmark and contributed one goal for the Black Meteors during the 2023 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations, although Ghana did not advance beyond the group stage in the tournament.
