Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, have offered to pay English-born Ghanaian defender Jerome Osei Opoku €1.5m for his transfer to the club from FC Arouca, Sportsworldghana.com can exclusively report.

Sportsworldghana.com can confirm that, the versatile defender, has formally handed in a transfer request to Arouca FC as he hopes to sign for the Turkish club.

The 24-year-old former Fulham centre-back looks likely to end his stay in the Primeira Liga despite one year remaining on his current contract.

Meanwhile, the player has confirmed to Sportsworldghana.com his willingness sign for Istanbul Basaksehir.

Opoku says: ”Yeh, that’s true myself and my representatives have been contacted by Istanbul Basaksehir and I have given them my word that I am ready to make a switch to Turkey, hopefully soon,” said the former Fulham defender.

”I think I have paid my dues at FC Arouca with my performance since joining them and also helping the club play in the UEFA Conference League playoffs.

”I have met with officials of my club- FC Arouca and I told them my stance as far as the offer is concerned so let’s see what happens before the Summer transfer shuts.” He concluded.

Opoku had an impressive season with Arouca in his first campaign, helping the club secure European qualification after starring in a defence that kept 13 clean sheets in the league.

So far this season, he has made four appearances, playing two games in the league and two in the Europa Conference League.

Opoku was born to Ghanaian parents in England and could play for the Black Stars at senior level.
