In response to the early exit of the Black Stars from the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a statement, acknowledging the disappointment felt by the nation.

The ministry recognized the high expectations placed on the team and the subsequent letdown experienced by millions of Ghanaians due to the Black Stars’ subpar performance. With defeats against Cape Verde (2-1) and draws against Egypt and Mozambique (both 2-2), the team failed to progress beyond the group stages, leading to widespread disappointment among fans.

In the statement released on Thursday, January 25, 2023, the ministry expressed gratitude for the continuous support and substantial investments made in the Black Stars by Ghanaians. Acknowledging the urgent need to address systemic issues within Ghana’s football, the ministry emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive analysis of the team’s strengths and weaknesses.

The ministry pledged to collaborate closely with stakeholders to develop a roadmap for the team’s revival, ensuring effective competition in future tournaments. Emphasizing the necessity for a thorough review of the challenges facing the national football team, the statement stressed the importance of identifying solutions to enhance performance.

Reiterating its commitment to supporting football development in Ghana, the Ministry of Youth and Sports vowed to work tirelessly to restore the Black Stars’ pride.

Encouraging all stakeholders to remain steadfast in their support, the ministry called for collective efforts towards a brighter future for Ghanaian football.
