Wayne Rooney recently praised Kobbie Mainoo, likening the Manchester United midfielder to a “young Bastian Schweinsteiger.” Mainoo showcased his talent during his 22nd appearance of the season, impressing fans and critics alike during the clash against Everton at Old Trafford.

At just 18 years old, Mainoo has left a mark with stellar performances under Erik ten Hag’s guidance, notably scoring twice this season. Among his notable moments is a breathtaking winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a goal in a 4-2 triumph against Newport County in the FA Cup.

Rooney, in an interview with TNT Sports, expressed his admiration for Mainoo’s maturity at such a tender age: “I think he’s incredible for such a young age, with the maturity he’s shown.” Drawing comparisons, Rooney added, “He reminds me of a young Bastian Schweinsteiger with how he plays, and he always seems to make the right decisions. He has a very bright future.”

Rio Ferdinand echoed Rooney’s sentiments, praising Mainoo’s composure, which sets him apart from other young players: “I enjoy watching him. Our eyes are always looking out for that next young player, and it’s that calmness and assuredness he has which is beyond his years.”

Mainoo’s performances have not gone unnoticed by fans and pundits, with many acknowledging his potential to become a future star for Manchester United. His ability to maintain his cool under pressure and make intelligent decisions on the field has drawn comparisons to seasoned players like Schweinsteiger.

Despite his young age, Mainoo has already demonstrated a level of maturity and skill that belies his years. His confidence on the ball and his knack for scoring crucial goals have endeared him to the Manchester United faithful, who have high hopes for his future at the club.

The young midfielder, with each passing game, further solidifies his status as one of the brightest prospects in English football.

With his talent, determination, and the support of those around him, there’s no telling how far he can go in the world of football with Ghana hoping to lure him to represent the four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners.
