Hearts of Oak’s Public Relations Officer, Kwame Opare Addo, has reaffirmed the club’s determination to avoid a repeat of their narrow escape from relegation in the previous Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians, who needed a dramatic 3-2 win against Bechem United on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign to stay in the top flight, have not started the new season on a strong note.
In their 2024/25 season opener, Hearts of Oak suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat at home to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars on Sunday, September 9, 2024. The loss left fans frustrated, leading to boos directed at both players and coaches after the game.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Opare Addo acknowledged the disappointing result and the need for improvement. “We don’t want what happened to us last season to happen again. We would have liked a perfect takeoff, but it didn’t happen. That’s not what we all expected,” he stated.
He added, “But that will teach us some lessons to take forward in the competition. Going forward, we have to be much more competitive, purposeful, and stronger than what we did in the first game.”
Hearts of Oak now look to bounce back in their next fixture, an away game against Heart of Lions on Sunday, where they will aim to secure their first points of the season and rebuild the confidence of their passionate fanbase.
