Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo scored a crucial penalty in the 44th minute to secure IF Elfsborg’s 1-0 win against AS Roma in the Europa League Round 2.

Baidoo, who played 86 minutes, calmly converted the spot-kick after a foul in the box, marking his first goal of the competition and giving Elfsborg a vital win at Borås Arena.

Baidoo was influential throughout the match, completing 80% of his passes (24/30), taking two shots on target, and contributing four touches inside Roma’s penalty area. His performance was key in staving off a dominant Roma side that controlled 75% of possession but failed to break down Elfsborg’s defense.

Fellow Ghanaian defender Terry Yegbe also played a crucial role in helping Elfsborg resist Roma’s attacking waves. Despite the Italian side’s relentless pressure, Elfsborg’s defense held firm, earning a valuable three points.

Elfsborg will now shift their attention to their next match in the Hong Kong Premier League against Lee Man on October 6, with Baidoo’s standout European performance boosting their confidence.
