Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has requested additional backroom staff following a meeting with the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The 47-year-old held the meeting to review Ghana’s disappointing campaign in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Black Stars failed to secure qualification for the tournament, marking the first time in 20 years that Ghana will miss out on the continental competition.
During the discussion, sources reveal that Otto Addo provided explanations for the team’s poor performance, which saw them finish bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches and no wins recorded. Despite the setback, the coach appealed for more support in his technical setup as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, set to resume in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
Currently, Otto Addo is assisted by John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and Fatawu Dauda. However, the coach believes strengthening his backroom staff is essential to improve the team’s performance in future competitions.
Although the GFA has yet to make a final decision on Otto Addo’s position, widespread reports suggest he is likely to remain in charge, despite the AFCON qualification failure.
