”Whoever thinks we’ve qualified is making a very big mistake” – Ghana coach Otto Addo despite commanding lead in World Cup qualifiers

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has cautioned fans and players against complacency despite Ghana strengthening their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes with a 3-0 victory over Madagascar in Morocco on Monday.

A brace from Thomas Partey and a close-range finish from Mohammed Kudus sealed a comfortable win for Ghana, extending their lead at the top of Group I to five points. With 15 points from six matches, the Black Stars are in a strong position heading into the final phase of qualifiers.

However, Addo, who guided Ghana to the 2022 World Cup, has emphasized the need to remain focused, warning that the qualification race is far from over.

“We are in a good position, but this is also a danger, and I’m already thinking about keeping our heads focused. The job is really not done,” Addo told 3Sports after the game.

“Maybe if Comoros win, we will just be three points ahead of them, and it is still a long way to go. We have to focus. If anyone thinks we are through, then he is making a big mistake. I have seen a lot of football, a lot of things happening, and we have to stay focused. I’m happy for today, but the job is really not done.”

Ghana, who have previously qualified for four World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022), are aiming for their fifth appearance on the global stage.
