Here’s a polished and original version of the story, rewritten clearly and without plagiarism while keeping all the important details:

Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Mawuena Gidi has officially started the process of acquiring Slovak citizenship, with the goal of representing Slovakia at the international level.

The Slovak Football Association (SFZ) confirmed that Gidi’s application is now under review. The association also submitted a supporting statement to strengthen the player’s case.

“An official request has been submitted regarding Samuel Gidi’s citizenship. It’s currently under review, and we’re waiting for a final decision,” said Martin Kollar, the media officer of MSK Zilina.

Gidi currently plays for Slovak top-tier side MSK Zilina and could be eligible to represent Slovakia in the upcoming UEFA Under-21 European Championship, which the country will host this summer.

Slovakia’s U-21 head coach, Jaroslav Kentos, has expressed interest in the 20-year-old midfielder, highlighting Gidi’s potential but also emphasizing competition for a spot in the squad.

“He’s got the quality for us to monitor him,” Kentos noted. “If he proves himself to be among the best, he’ll go to the Euros. If not, he won’t. The competition is fierce.”

Should Gidi receive approval and make the squad, he would join a select group of naturalised players to represent Slovakia, such as Karim Guede and Vernon De Marco.

Gidi made the move to Slovakia in 2022 from Zilina Africa and has since become a key player for MSK Zilina. Over three seasons, he has featured in 88 matches in the Slovak Super Liga, scoring six goals.

His impressive development has not gone unnoticed. In December, the CIES Football Observatory named him among the top Under-21 talents globally.
