Veteran South African coach Pitso Mosimane has officially submitted an application for the vacant Black Stars head coach position, according to reports by GHANAsoccernet.com.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently searching for a new manager following the dismissal of Otto Addo on March 31, after a string of disappointing results during the March international break.
Addo, who took charge in March 2024, was relieved of his duties after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats—a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna and a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart. Despite guiding the team to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, inconsistent performances ultimately led to his exit.
GFA president Kurt Okraku has revealed that the association has received over 600 applications for the high-profile role, highlighting the global interest in leading the four-time African champions.
Among the applicants is Mosimane, one of Africa’s most decorated coaches, known for his success with top clubs including SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Al-Ahli Jeddah, Al Wahda, Abha, and Esteghlal.
The experienced tactician famously won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns and later secured back-to-back titles with Al Ahly, cementing his reputation as one of the continent’s elite managers.
Currently unattached since January 2025, Mosimane has previously expressed interest in returning to national team management and could be attracted by the opportunity to lead Ghana at the World Cup and rebuild the team ahead of the next AFCON.
Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18, before facing England and Croatia in Group L as they aim to progress beyond the group stage.
