Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has firmly dismissed the traditional debate over playing styles, insisting that his philosophy is defined by one principle alone — winning.
Speaking during his official unveiling at the Alisa Hotel as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz offered a mix of humour and clarity when addressing expectations around his tactical approach.
With Ghanaian fans known for their passionate opinions, the Portuguese tactician joked about the pressure that comes with the job.
“I’ve been told there are 33 million coaches here,” he said. “That makes my job easier because with so many opinions around me, it will be easy to make decisions.”
His remark drew smiles but also reflected the intense scrutiny that typically surrounds the Black Stars’ head coach role.
Queiroz was however firm in rejecting the idea that modern football can be neatly categorised into defensive or attacking philosophies.
“In modern football, there is no such thing as defensive or attacking coaches. The language I know is the winning language,” he stated.
For the experienced coach, football is not about labels or aesthetics, but execution, discipline, and results — especially on the world stage.
He further outlined the core principles that will define his team, stressing unity, effort, and collective sacrifice.
“When we don’t have the ball, we must fight together. We must sacrifice,” Queiroz added.
The message points toward a structured and disciplined Black Stars side, built on organisation and resilience, particularly in high-pressure matches.
As Ghana prepares for its World Cup campaign, which begins with a Group L clash against Panama in June following two warm-up friendlies, Queiroz has already set a clear tone.
Style may divide opinion, but for him, success will be measured in results — not philosophy.
