Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has disclosed that the appointment of new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is not yet fully formalised, with key contractual details still pending.
Despite the incomplete paperwork, the experienced Portuguese tactician has already begun work, embarking on a European tour where he met team captain Jordan Ayew and deputy Thomas Partey shortly after his unveiling. He also monitored locally-based players during Black Galaxies friendlies at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams explained that although there is an agreement in principle, the final contract has not been signed, making it difficult to confirm full financial details.
“I will check the figures because we have not finalised and signed everything, but it’s not up to $100,000,” he stated.
The minister noted that the urgency of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup—less than two months away—necessitated swift action to secure a coach with proven experience at the highest level.
According to Adams, the agreement is based on a short-term arrangement of up to four months, covering the duration of the tournament, with any extension dependent on performance.
Queiroz, 73, replaces Otto Addo and is expected to guide Ghana through a challenging Group L campaign against England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.
