The Black Stars have received a major spiritual boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, pledged nationwide prayers for the team’s success at the tournament.
A delegation from the Black Stars Management Committee paid a visit to the revered Islamic leader on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to seek prayers and blessings as Ghana intensifies preparations for the global competition set to take place in North America.
The delegation was led by Medeama SC President and Management Committee member Moses Armah. Also present were Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Samuel Aboabire and former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, who currently serves on the committee.
The visit forms part of efforts by the Ghana Football Association and the management team to unite the nation behind the Black Stars ahead of the tournament.
Speaking during the meeting, Moses Armah thanked the Chief Imam for his continuous support for the national team over the years and appealed for more prayers as Ghana prepares to compete against some of the strongest football nations in the world.
He stressed the need for unity, faith, and national support as the Black Stars aim to make the country proud on football’s biggest stage.
In response, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu assured the delegation of his full support and revealed that special prayers would be offered for the Black Stars during Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers across the country.
According to the Chief Imam, regional Imams would be encouraged to include prayers for Ghana’s World Cup journey in their congregations as the nation rallies behind the team.
The Black Stars Management Committee and officials from the Ghana Football Association are also expected to join a special prayer session at the Central Mosque in Kawukudi as part of preparations for the tournament.
Excitement continues to build ahead of the World Cup, with many Ghanaians hopeful the Black Stars can deliver an impressive performance in the competition.
