Ghana skipper Jordan Ayew will leave Leicester City at the end of the season after the club confirmed the departure of several senior players following their relegation to England’s League One.
The experienced forward joined Leicester City from Crystal Palace in August 2024 in a deal reportedly worth £5 million, with additional clauses capable of increasing the fee to £8 million. Leicester had just returned to the Premier League at the time and relied on Ayew’s vast experience to strengthen the squad.
Despite the club’s difficult campaign, the 34-year-old remained a key figure and featured consistently throughout the season. He scored six goals in 42 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.
Before moving to Leicester, Ayew enjoyed a successful spell at Crystal Palace, where he played more than 200 matches. Over the course of his career, he has also represented Swansea City, Aston Villa and Olympique Marseille.
With over 500 club appearances and more than 100 career goals, Ayew remains one of Ghana’s most accomplished and experienced footballers abroad.
The Black Stars captain is now expected to shift full focus to international assignments as Ghana continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Ayew is widely expected to lead the Ghana national football team at the tournament, where Ghana have been placed in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.
As one of the most senior players in the squad, his leadership and experience are expected to play a crucial role as Ghana aim to progress beyond the group stage and make a strong impression on the global stage.
