Veteran Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito believes the experience of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz could be decisive in Ghana’s bid to make a strong impression at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Ghana are set for their fifth appearance at the global tournament, with their campaign opening against Panama on June 17, 2026, in a crucial Group L fixture. The Black Stars will also face England and 2018 finalists Croatia in a challenging group staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Swiit FM, the former Asante Kotoko coach praised Queiroz’s pedigree and insisted the Portuguese tactician has already brought stability and confidence to the squad.
“Carlos Queiroz’s experience could prove to be Ghana’s trump card at the World Cup. His vast knowledge of the game and wealth of experience will be a major benefit to the Black Stars,” Zito said.
“Since his arrival, he has shown great maturity and leadership, and I believe the players have responded positively to him. The boys seem happy working under him, and I strongly believe they will give their all for him.”
“I am confident Ghana now has a coach who is well-versed in the game and capable of leading the team successfully. His appointment is undoubtedly a huge boost for the Black Stars.”
Ghana head into the tournament still searching for their first knockout-stage qualification since their historic 2010 campaign in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals — their best-ever World Cup performance.
The Black Stars have previously featured at the World Cup in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022, and there is growing optimism that the 2026 edition could mark a fresh turning point for the team under Queiroz’s leadership.
