Former Italy international Mario Balotelli has lavished praise on Ghana and Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo, describing the Black Stars attacker as one of his favourite players because of his exciting style of play.
Semenyo has enjoyed an outstanding rise since completing his move to Manchester City during the January transfer window. The versatile forward has quickly established himself as one of Ghana’s key attacking threats, earning widespread recognition for his pace, physicality, relentless work rate and ability to unsettle opposing defences.
The 25-year-old has carried that impressive form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification for the Round of 32. His influential performances have also seen him emerge as one of Africa’s standout players at the tournament.
Balotelli, who was born to Ghanaian parents but represented Italy at international level, admitted he has been particularly impressed by Semenyo’s performances and believes the Manchester City star is one of the Black Stars’ brightest talents.
“I love the players. Semenyo, I love the way he plays. I think 2010 was the best team of Ghana,” Balotelli said.
The former Manchester City, AC Milan and Inter Milan striker also reaffirmed his support for Ghana at the ongoing World Cup, explaining that despite representing Italy during his playing career, he remains deeply proud of his Ghanaian heritage.
“There is no Italy in the World Cup, so I support Ghana. I am from Ghana, and I’m proud,” he added.
Balotelli’s comments come as the Black Stars prepare for their Round of 32 encounter, with growing optimism surrounding the team’s performances and the contributions of players such as Semenyo, who has become one of Ghana’s most influential figures on the global stage.
Although Balotelli ultimately chose to play for Italy at senior international level, the former striker has consistently acknowledged his Ghanaian roots and has once again demonstrated his affection for the Black Stars by publicly backing them in their quest for World Cup glory.
