Ghana international Brandon Thomas-Asante says reaching the Premier League is a dream come true, but insists his ambitions go far beyond simply playing in England’s top flight.
The 27-year-old striker played a pivotal role in Coventry City’s promotion-winning campaign during the 2025/26 Championship season, helping the Sky Blues secure a return to the Premier League after contributing 13 goals and four assists in 32 league appearances.
Having achieved one of the biggest milestones of his career, Thomas-Asante is now focused on proving himself at the highest level of English football.
Speaking to ESPN, the Black Stars forward reflected on the journey that led him to the Premier League, describing it as the reward for years of patience, hard work and unwavering faith.
“They say that sometimes it takes a long time for things to happen overnight,” he said.
“It’s definitely a case of holding out and holding out, pushing, pushing. I’m grateful to God that the breakthrough has happened — to be in the Premier League now, which is where I’ve always wanted to be, and believed I could be.”
Despite fulfilling a lifelong ambition, Thomas-Asante made it clear that he has no intention of merely making up the numbers in the Premier League. Instead, he wants to compete with the very best and leave a lasting mark in the division.
“The intention is not just to be in the Premier League,” he continued. “It’s to be top of the Premier League and to be the best.”
The former West Bromwich Albion forward also believes his experience representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has strengthened his confidence and convinced him that he belongs among football’s elite.
Competing against some of the world’s best players on the biggest stage has only increased his determination to keep improving and establish himself at the highest level.
“But I already have the opportunity to do that now, because I get to be on the pitch at the World Cup. I want to prove that I belong at the top of world football.”
Thomas-Asante featured twice for the Black Stars during the World Cup and provided one assist as Ghana reached the knockout stage before bowing out to Colombia.
With the new Premier League season fast approaching, the Ghanaian forward will be eager to carry his impressive Championship form into the top flight as Coventry City prepare for their long-awaited return to England’s biggest football stage.
