The Ghana Football Association has urged the Ghana Police Service to enforce the laws of the country at all football centers following the recent escalation of violence in the Ghanaian game.
The Ghana Police Service is the main law enforcement agency of Ghana. The service is under the control of the Ghanaian Ministry of the Interior, and employs over 30,000 officers across its 651 stations.
“That the Executive Council wishes to reiterate that criminal conduct at a football venue must be handled the same way criminal conduct is handled generally in Ghana by law. The Association therefore urges the Ghana Police Service to leave no stone unturned in pursuing the perpetrators and to use all legal means to bring them to justice.” a statement from the GFA said.
“That the Executive Council as a matter of urgency has requested for a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service to find a lasting solution to these incidents at match centres.” the statement continued.
The Division One League match between B.A United and Real Tamale United was abandoned after the first half as referee Maxwell Hanson was physically assaulted by some fans prompting the GFA Executive Council to organize an emergency meeting to address the matter.
