Ezekiel Fernandez has emerged as a potential successor to Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey at Arsenal. The Gunners are reportedly interested in the 22-year-old Argentine as Partey’s future at the club remains in question.
Argentine journalist Diego Monroig has reported that Fernandez’s representatives have been informed of Arsenal’s intent to pursue him during the summer transfer window. Although Arsenal had previously scouted Fernandez, they now face competition from Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah, which has already made a bid for the player.
Despite Arsenal’s earlier focus on box-to-box midfielders rather than traditional defensive midfielders, recent links to Fernandez suggest a possible shift in strategy.
Fernandez showcased his abilities in a deep-lying role for Argentina in a match against Iraq, where he scored a goal, completed 85 of 92 passes, and made 12 ball recoveries, according to FotMob.
Partey’s injury issues last season, which limited him to fewer than 20 appearances across all competitions, have been a significant concern for Arsenal.
