According to Asante Kotoko board member Joseph Yaw Adu, the board recently called upon the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah, to provide an explanation as to why he terminated the contract of coach Seydou Zerbo without informing the board.
Zerbo was let go following the team’s surprise 2-0 home loss to Medeama SC last month. Adu clarified that the decision to fire the coach was made by a subcommittee and not the entire board, and that Amponsah was asked to provide further details regarding Zerbo’s dismissal as well as the team’s recent performance and other technical matters.
“It was a sub committee meeting, the entire board has not met,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
“We summoned the CEO (Nana Yaw Amponsah) to explain to us why he did not inform us before sacking coach Seydou Zerbo and the recent performance of the team and other technical matters.
Adu also dispelled rumors that the CEO was being targeted for termination.
“There was no agenda of sacking the CEO,it is mere speculations.”
Zerbo had only joined Asante Kotoko at the beginning of the current season and oversaw the team’s exit from the CAF Champions League, as well as their struggles in the Ghana Premier League.
