Charles Kwabla Akonnor, the former head coach of Asante Kotoko, has emphasized the need for comprehensive improvements across all aspects of the club to reinstate its glorious days.
In the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, the Porcupine Warriors clinched victory under the leadership of coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who returned to the club after departing in the same year following the trophy triumph.
As the record holders of the Ghana Premier League, the team is currently engaged in pre-season preparations for the upcoming campaign scheduled to commence in September, barring any unexpected impediments.
CK Akonnor, a former manager of the Black Stars, steered the club for a span of nine months from October 2018 to July 2019. He emphasizes that the club needs to address all areas that require refinement.
“I think they need to look at themselves and see, where are we now and what we have to do to improve the squad and also to improve our game and also be known as it were some years back”
He also drew a historical parallel, highlighting past luminaries like Abdul Razak and Papa Arko, who led the club to Champions League success. Acknowledging this legacy, he emphasized the necessity of revisiting and bolstering that aspect of the club’s identity.
“The likes of Abdul Razak, Papa Arko, I think they won the champions league and this is missing and this is what they need to look at and work on it.” Charles Akonnor told Radio Gold Sports.
Asante Kotoko is set to kick off their 2023/24 BetPawa Premier League campaign with an away match against returning team Hearts of Lions.
