Aston Villa have completed the permanent signing of Japanese-Ghanaian goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Italian Serie A side Parma, bolstering their squad ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper arrives at Villa Park after an impressive rise through the ranks, having begun his professional career with Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan before enjoying spells with Sint-Truiden in Belgium and Parma in Italy.
Born to a Ghanaian father and Japanese mother, Suzuki has established himself as Japan’s first-choice goalkeeper, earning 28 senior international caps and representing the country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Known for his excellent reflexes, commanding presence, distribution and composure under pressure, Suzuki is regarded as one of Asia’s brightest goalkeeping talents.
The transfer also places him among the most expensive goalkeepers in football history and makes him the second-most expensive Japanese player ever, behind Shoya Nakajima.
Aston Villa believe Suzuki has the quality to challenge for a starting place as the Premier League club strengthens its goalkeeping department for the 2026/27 campaign.
