Benjamin Asare, born on July 13, 1992, has emerged as one of Ghana’s most dependable goalkeepers, building a career defined by consistency, resilience, and excellence across domestic and international football.
Asare’s football journey began with Sporting Mirren FC, now known as Accra City Stars FC, where his early promise in goal quickly caught the attention of bigger clubs. His big break came in 2020 when he signed for Accra Great Olympics, a move that would mark the beginning of his rise to national prominence.
He made his debut for Great Olympics on November 15, 2020, in a 1-1 draw against Medeama SC, and followed it up with a commanding performance on November 20, keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Legon Cities FC. Asare’s commanding presence between the posts, sharp reflexes, and vocal leadership made him a key figure in the squad.
Over four seasons with Great Olympics, Asare made 73 appearances, becoming a cornerstone of their defense. His standout season came in 2023/24, where he played 34 matches, helping stabilize the team’s backline with consistent shot-stopping and game-reading ability.
In July 2024, Asare took a significant step in his career by joining Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak. Though early into his tenure, he has already made 7 appearances in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, continuing to prove his worth with solid performances.
His club form earned him international recognition when he represented Ghana in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in December 2024. He played against Nigeria in a two-legged tie, including a memorable goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium on December 22, and the return leg on December 28 in Nigeria.
