During his State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, February 27, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lauded the outstanding achievements of the Black Queens, emphasizing their remarkable performances despite receiving less recognition compared to the Black Stars.
Highlighting the team’s impressive unbeaten streak of ten matches, President Akufo-Addo underscored the Black Queens’ resilience and dedication on the field. Despite a narrow defeat to Namibia in the final qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the President commended their commendable efforts.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo called upon all Ghanaians to throw their support behind the Black Queens as they gear up for a crucial qualifier against Zambia on Wednesday in their quest for the 2024 Olympic Games.
“Mr. Speaker, the senior Women’s team the Black Queens who do not get half the attention the Black Stars get, have been performing quite creditably. They had gone for ten (10) matches without any loss until last December’s when they lost narrowly to Namibia in Windhoek in the final qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“Even though they narrowly lost to Zambia in the first leg of the Olympic Games qualifiers, let us extend our well wishes to them for the second leg to be played in Lusaka tomorrow, and hope they inspire us with an uplifting performance,” expressed President Akufo-Addo.
With the Black Queens aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Zambia, President Akufo-Addo’s encouragement serves as a rallying call for national solidarity and support as the team seeks to secure qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
