Ghana’s women’s national football team, the Black Queens, has experienced a decline in the latest FIFA Women’s rankings.

The rankings, released by FIFA, show that the Black Queens are now ranked 59th globally with 1428.37 points, a decrease from the previous 58th position with 1419.63 points. This decline of one position resulted in a loss of 8.74 points in the latest ranking.

Unfortunately, this drop means that Ghana is not among the top 50 best female national teams globally, and their ranking slid due to their failure to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nigeria (32) and South Africa (45) are the only African teams in the top 50.

On the African continent, Nigeria maintains its number one position, followed by South Africa, Cameroon, Morocco, and Ghana, which slipped from 4th to 5th place due to a margin of 2.86 points.

Ghana’s highest ranking was in June to September 2008, when they occupied the 42nd position. However, the lowest ranking was in December 2019, when the country was placed 60th.

In the world rankings, Spain, the World champions, rose from 6th to 2nd position, while England, the runners-up in the World Cup, retained their fourth spot.

The top five teams included Sweden, Spain, the United States of America, England, and France. The remaining top ten teams were Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Brazil, and Canada, in that order. FIFA’s Women’s World Ranking evaluates teams based on their actual strength and value.
