Newly appointed Black Stars goalkeeping coach Daniel Gaspar has expressed strong confidence in the quality of Ghana’s domestic goalkeepers after watching the Ghana Premier League clash between Hearts of Oak and Karela United.
The experienced Portuguese-American trainer, who officially assumed his role on April 28, 2026, attended the fixture as part of an ongoing talent assessment exercise ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Following the match, Gaspar praised the overall quality on display and admitted he was impressed by the level of talent within the local game.
“I enjoyed Hearts of Oak versus Karela. There were a lot of talents on the field,” he told 3 Sports.
Gaspar also singled out Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbasi for praise, highlighting the growing pool of goalkeeping options available to the Black Stars.
“Absolutely, Benjamin Asare is a good goalkeeper. He is part of the national team pool. Agbasi has got quality. We have some good goalkeepers in Ghana,” he added.
Agbasi was recently included in head coach Carlos Queiroz’s 23-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico national football team on May 22.
As part of his assessment tour, Gaspar also visited the Pobiman Sports Complex on May 5, where he interacted with players and observed the club’s training setup under technical director Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.
A long-time associate of Queiroz, Gaspar arrives with vast experience, having worked at four FIFA World Cups. He is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s revamped technical team as the Black Stars aim to progress beyond the group stage at this summer’s tournament.
