Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has sounded positive about Ghana’s resurrection under Otto Addo. Black Stars have been very abysmal in recent years as they have failed to progress from the group stages of the AFCON in the last two tournaments.
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ghana finished at the bottom of their Group containing Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea. Recent performances show that the senior national team has retrogressed and needs to be back to their usual best.
“We were on top for about 10 to 12 years, and now it’s other people,” said Ayew. Ghana was very consistent in the AFCON from 2008 to 2015 as they reached the semi-finals of every AFCON and even lost two finals to Egypt and Ivory in 2010 and 2015 respectively. The Black Stars reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and were superb also in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil even though they failed to qualify from the group.
“But we have the talent and the players. It’s just a matter of time and a little bit of luck for things to switch around”, added Andre Ayew. Talking of talents, Ghana has never lacked talents in their history as every generation contains highly talented players.
Currently, Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, and Tariq Lamptey among many talented young Ghanaian players are making good names for themselves and the nation. They have the potential to bring Ghana back to its glory days.
Skipper Andre Ayew believes it’s just a matter of time and a little bit of luck and Ghana will become a force once again.
