Ibrahim Digberekou, an 18-year-old talented teenager of Ghanaian heritage born in Eupen, has expressed his desire to represent the Belgian national team in the near future.
Known as a rising prospect in both club and international football, Digberekou’s potential to join the European giants has been a topic of discussion among football fans and experts.
The young centre-back, who currently plays for Belgium’s U18 team, believes that with time, he will earn a place in the senior squad and have the opportunity to represent Belgium on the international stage.
When asked about his readiness for the Belgian national team, Digberekou confidently stated to Belgian radio station BRF, ” I’m working towards that [ representing the Belgium national team] one day and it will be like this.”
Recently, Digberekou signed his first professional contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. He is now focused on acclimatizing to senior football by joining the U23 squad after progressing from the U19 team for the upcoming season.
Digberekou recognizes the differences between youth and senior football and is determined to adapt quickly.
“My next goal is to get used to men’s football as quickly as possible. I’m currently preparing for the U23s. It’s different from the U19s.”
While Digberekou has shown his intention to represent Belgium, there is still a possibility that the Ghana Football Association may try to persuade him to switch allegiance and play for Ghana on the international stage.
