Sevilla and Cameroon International Fabrice Ondoa has moved from the Spanish side to KV Oostende of the Belgian league.
Ondoa will reunite with manager Hugo Broos, who managed Cameroon to glory at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ondoa, who is 22 years old, has spent many years developing in Spain. He started playing at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy at 13, before going to Gimnastic in the second division of Spain. Finally, he came to Sevilla FC.
Despite Ondoa’s performances with his country at AFCON and the FIFA Confederations Cup, he struggled to find game time at Sevilla.
“Fabrice Ondoa has tremendous power. He’s a goalkeeper I really relied on at the African Cup,” said Hugo Broos.
“My patience and my hard work will now be rewarded, thanks to Mr. Broos. I was inexplicably deadlocked in Spain,” Ondoa said.
Ondoa is succeeding another African goalkeeper, as Gabonese goalkeeper Didier Ovono has left the team.
Fabrice Ondoa concluded, saying: “When Mr. Broos called me to say he was looking for another goalkeeper, I could not resist. I’m glad it worked. I know that the KV Ostende could have counted in the past with Didier Ovono, a very good African goalkeeper. It is for me to prove that I am his worthy successor.”
