Experienced Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito has awarded former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz a rating of six out of 10 for Ghana’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the Portuguese tactician’s limited preparation time before the tournament.
Queiroz was appointed as Ghana’s head coach in April after replacing Otto Addo, leaving him with barely two months to prepare the Black Stars for football’s biggest tournament.
The veteran coach had just one opportunity to assess his squad in a 1-1 international friendly against Wales before leading Ghana into the World Cup.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Queiroz guided the Black Stars through a difficult group campaign. Ghana opened with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama before earning a commendable goalless draw against England. Although they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group game, the Black Stars still progressed to the Round of 32.
Ghana’s impressive run eventually came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage.
Speaking to Fox FM, Karim Zito praised Queiroz for stabilising the team in a short period and believes the former Real Madrid and Portugal coach deserves recognition for his efforts.
“I would rate Coach Carlos Queiroz 6 out of 10 because he didn’t have enough time to get to know the players,” Zito said.
The former Dreams FC coach acknowledged that building a competitive national team requires time, particularly when introducing new tactical ideas and understanding the strengths of individual players.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to conduct a comprehensive review of the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign in the coming weeks before deciding on the future of Carlos Queiroz and the team’s technical direction ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
