Chesterfield striker Akwasi Asante says his motive was to play for Ajax Amsterdam though he liked Manchester United and Arsenal.
The Dutch attacker of Ghanaian descent mentioned that he grew up watching Van Nistelrooy in the Premiership and that ignited his passion to move to England.
“I must like red kits,” the 28-year-old told Derbyshire Times.
My dream was to play for Ajax, but he also admired Arsenal’s great ‘invincibles’ side and had a soft spot for Manchester United, in particular Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistlerooy.”
Asante 28, was considered a huge prospect at Birmingham City during his useful days but failed to reach his full potential though he has been very consistent in the English lower leagues in the past few years.
