Black Stars coach, Chris Houghton, in an interview with BBC, shared his expectations for Ghana Black Stars and his experience so far with African football.
He said” My role as coach of the Black Stars is to get results and the best performances from the team. You can’t always get that, but what you can always do, you can always learn from your previous experiences, whether it’s good or bad. And ultimately, I will work as hard as I always do, to try to get things the best way that we can”.
When questioned on the imminent AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, the former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland defender said, “It’s wonderful and great to want to talk about AFCON, the tournament itself sometimes for coaches it’s difficult, because we have two very important World Cup qualification games before then. If your concentration is too far past that then you can take your eye off what is at the moment, the most important thing”.
He continued, “The most important thing for us at this moment is our two World Cup qualification games”.
The 64-year-old former Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion boss shared his experience so far about African football. He said Morocco, Egypt, Senegal, Cameroon and Tunisia are strong teams. The level of teams in Africa I think is as strong as it has ever been, I do”. Chris continued, “I think there are so many now, so many more players playing at big clubs in Europe, and on the world stage”.
