Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew has admitted words from former players such as Samuel Eto’o only mean his dad, Abedi Ayew Pele was such a great footballer during his time.
According to Jordan, he discussed his father’s legacy with Eto’o, the current president of the Cameroon Football Federation, during a conversation.
Recognising the significance of the Cameroon legend’s perspective, Ayew emphasised that his father’s status as a top player is strengthened by the appreciation he receives from known figures in the football world.
Abedi Pele, who won the UEFA Champions League winner in 1993 with Olympique Marseille, is largely recognised as Ghana’s best footballer of all time.
Among Abedi’s numerous accolades was being voted African Footballer of the Year on three occasions and leading the Black Stars to victory in the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“When I go to places and I hear players like Samuel Eto’o speaking about him, that shows that he was a top player,” Jordan said.
“I looked at videos and I heard people speaking about him. He was incredible, and back home he is still seen as one of the best Africans to ever play the game.”
