Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the owner and bankroller of Elmina Sharks, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the officiating following his team’s loss to Swedru All Blacks on Sunday.
The match, held at the Ndoum Sports Stadium in Zone Two, ended in controversy as the game descended into chaos, with players and officials attacking the referee after the final whistle. The tension heightened when a controversial penalty was awarded against Elmina Sharks.
In an interview with GTV Sports Plus, Dr. Nduom expressed his frustration with the performance of the match officials. “I was at the stadium even before the referee and the match commissioner came. Usually, there is a conference before every match to address concerns, but these match officials did not show up for that match conference,” he revealed.
He continued to explain his shock at a key decision: “Twelve minutes into the match, I witnessed an incident that should not have resulted in a penalty. When that decision was made, everyone was in disbelief.”
Angered by the officiating, Dr. Nduom took action to address the situation, urging his players to leave the field in protest. He highlighted his commitment to fairness in the game by ensuring the protest was peaceful.
“I have worked with many referees, but this referee was quite, in my view, insolent. It seemed he did not care about his responsibilities,” Dr. Nduom concluded, expressing his disappointment with the match official’s conduct.
