Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona are in talks over playing a possible pre-season tournament in the United States this summer.
The three sides are still backing plans to form a European Super League, despite nine of the other 12 ‘founding members’ dropping their support. The rebel clubs remain insistent that reform is needed at the top level of football.
With Real, Juve and Barça searching for other ways to recoup lost finances owing to the pandemic, ESPN report that the trio are planning a series of friendlies in the US.
Milan – who were part of initial Super League plans before backing out amid widespread backlash – have been asked about becoming the fourth team in the tournament.
While it is still in the planning stages, it’s believed that tournament games would take place on the west coast of the US, and many cities are vying to host a Clasico between Real and Barcelona.
The two Spanish clubs last met Stateside in 2017, with Barça prevailing 3-2 in what would be Neymar’s final game for the club before his world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain.
All three sides grew accustomed to playing pre-season fixtures in the US prior to the pandemic, with the International Champions Cup regularly held there.
